Many Jewish children living in Israel are not able to celebrate their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
WIZO offers these children and their families a chance to celebrate this important life milestone.
A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a significant and memorable milestone in a Jewish child’s life. Sadly, there are many children in Israel who are not fortunate enough to be able to celebrate their Bar or Bat Mitzvah due to their parent’s financial constraints.
WIZO helps hundreds of these children each year as part of its’ Bar and Bat Mitzvah Twinning Program by organising a beautiful ceremony and celebration at the Kotel.
The students are involved in formal and informal learning and attend a series of activities, outings and enrichment classes. The programs are based in WIZO centres and clubs throughout Israel.
In addition, each child who participates in the Twinning Program receives a special gift. The boys are presented with a set of tefillin, siddur and tallit whilst the girls receive a siddur and candlesticks.
WIZO is extremely proud of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Twinning Program. However, WIZO cannot provide this valuable service without the generous support of the Jewish community in the Diaspora.
A donation of $180 ensures that WIZO provides children the opportunity to enjoy this milestone.
“This is a very special day for me, and an honour to accompany my son to his Bar Mitzvah. I could never have been able to do this by myself. WIZO has helped me to bring happiness to my son and to the members of my family who came especially for the celebration”
(A widowed father of six children, from Beer Sheva).
Testimonial : Kylie decided to donate part of her Bat Mitzvah birthday money to the WIZO Twinning Project as she feels very fortunate to be able to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah and would like to give children in Israel the same opportunity to celebrate this important milestone. Kylie is a member of WIZO Kids and understands the importance of supporting Israel by helping the children and giving them opportunities by donating money towards WIZO projects.
Please contact Ruth Kurc at the WIZO Victoria office on (03) 9272 5588 for further details about the program or to donate.
