ISRAEL is at war, WIZO is on the ground

Message from Anita Friedman -

WIZO IS EVERYWHERE. ALL THE TIME.

Dear friend,

I would like to thank you for your kind donation to WIZO, and to take this opportunity to give you a glimpse of the work we have been doing with your support.

As Israel’s largest social welfare and educational organization, WIZO is uniquely positioned to bring our expertise, experience and thousands of professionals and volunteers to bear in this battle for the mental wellbeing of our people, to fortify their resilience and strengthen their morale, now and in the months to come.

WIZO is doing what WIZO always has – helping those who need it the most. Tens of thousands of the most vulnerable. In times of crisis, WIZO is everywhere, all the time.

WIZO is operating 11 emergency day care centres in leading Israeli hospitals to ensure that medical personnel can do their life-saving work. Hundreds of evacuated families have found refuge in our youth villages and Parents Home. Care packages and other assistance have gone to thousands of soldiers, displaced families, and families of hostages. 400 women and children who recently left domestic violence shelters are receiving critically needed assistance; thousands of parents have received counselling through our expanded, 24/7 hotlines; hundreds of teens in our youth villages and schools are receiving psychological support; and there is so much more.

WHO ARE WE HELPING?

Sergei*

Sergei, 17, escaped the war in Ukraine and has been living at WIZO Nachlat Yehuda youth village. The Gaza war is a trauma in a trauma for Sergei, who is one of 250 youth from abroad that WIZO is caring for in our youth villages. Despite the war, Sergei feels safe. WIZO keeps him safe.

Malka*

Malka, a 57-year-old widow who is battling lung cancer, was forced to leave her home in Ashkelon, with her three children, mother and step-mother, in their 90s. They had no place to go until the WIZO Parents Home in Tel Aviv took them in. Now they are safe, and all their needs are being taken care of.

Yael*

Three years ago, Yael, 38, from Haifa, fled her violent spouse who threatened to kill her and their three children. They found refuge in a WIZO shelter, after which WIZO helped her rebuild an independent life. Because of the war, she lost her job. WIZO is assisting her until she is back on her feet. She will not have to return to her violent spouse. She is one of the 150 women and 250 children WIZO is supporting.

Now, if you multiply Sergei, Malka and Yael by tens of thousands – you will begin to understand WIZO’s impact.

Your impact

We cannot thank you enough for your support for WIZO and for Israel, and we pray for better times.

Am Yisrael Chai!

With warmest regards,

Anita Friedman
