Susan Eichenbaum z'l

Susan Eichenbaum z'l was born in Poland in 1935. Both her parents were members of the Bund.

When the war broke out she and 22 family members fled to Russia. Only Susan and her parents returned to Warsaw after the war.

They lived in Poland until 1948 but left when they heard that the Communists were coming. They made their way to Paris where they lived for two years before coming to Australia in 1950.

On her first day at work she met Nathan Eichenbaum and they married not long after. Together they had 5 children within 8 years.

Susan became involved in WIZO Zahav in 1975. In 1995 she became their President, a position she held for 21 years.

She was elected to the WIZO State Council of Victoria and held many positions there. No task was ever too big or too small for her.

In 2003 she was awarded WIZO’s highest honour, the Rebecca Sieff Award.

When organizing functions became too hard for her she would involve her children in planning, shlepping, cleaning etc.

Susan took great pride in all that she achieved. The project that was closest to her heart was Ahuzat Yeladim in Haifa.

Sadly, Susan passed away in 2016.
