Evelyn Charles

Evelyn Charles was born in London in 1942 and married Frank in 1960. They have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Evelyn and Frank and her parents emigrated to Wellington , New Zealand in 1962. She joined WIZO in June 1962.

Evelyn opened a dancing school in Wellington and given her dancing and choreographic background produced many shows for WIZO . These, together with other events, raised a lot of money for WIZO. New Zealand at the time raised more money per ratio per population than any other country in the world and was recognised by World WIZO.

Evelyn emigrated to Brisbane in 1999 and joined WIZO Aviva. She reunited with Linda Briner who had been a WIZO member in Wellington, and later with Judy Berg who had moved to the Gold Coast. Together with Judy she put on shows in Queensland.

Evelyn became Treasurer of WIZO Aviva and later President.

She joined the WIZO State Council of Queensland and rose to the position of President. (2014 – 2018) The highlight of her Presidency was hosting the 80th anniversary of WIZO in Queensland.

She has been dedicated to helping the women and children of Israel through WIZO for 59 years. She and Frank dedicated their 60th Wedding Anniversary to WIZO.

Evelyn has received a Rebecca Sieff Award and has a plaque dedicated to her at Ahuzat Yeladim.
