Nelly Weiss OAM z'l
Nelly Weiss OAM z'| was born in Berlin in 1930. By the time she passed away in 2018, she had made an outstanding contribution to the community and continuity of WIZO. She was an Executive Member of WIZO NSW from 1968, Honorary Secretary then President of WIZO NSW from 1972 to 1981, and President of WIZO Australia from 1983 to 1989.
Nelly was a mentor to many young WIZO women. She established the Cecile and Max Merel Leadership Training Award, enabling WIZO NSW to send young women to Israel to further encourage their love of WIZO at WIZO Aviv conferences.
Nellie was President of Moriah Kindergarten, President of the South Head and District Synagogue Youth Education Committee, and the sole Australian representative at the Preparatory International Seminar for the Nairobi Women's Conference, which was sponsored by World WIZO and attended by over 200 delegates.
Nelly was a recipient of the Rebecca Sieff Award, a Life Member of the World WIZO Executive, and was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1994 for her services to WIZO and the Jewish Community.
