Betty Dykes
Betty Dykes was born in Sydney in 1938, the youngest of 3 children.
After matriculating from Ravenswood School for Girls she studied physiotherapy. On completion of her course she sailed to England in the 1960s and travelled around Europe.
On her return to London she studied at Foxbury College to train with the Church Missionary Society.
Betty then set sail to Pakistan where she worked in a hospital. Shortly after she met and married Richard Dykes in Pakistan and had 2 children there.
Eventually, in 1971, they returned to Sydney. They ended up moving to the Sunshine Coast.
In 1993 Betty and Richard made their first journey to Israel. This was a life changing experience for them. As a result Betty has now been there 11 times.
Betty joined WIZO Kesher in 1993 at the inaugural meeting.
She has been Secretary, then President for a few years while Rose Toms was out of action. Then she went back to being secretary again. She relinquished that position in 2020 when she took on Vice President. She had also been Education Secretary for many years.
Betty’s involvement in WIZO Kesher has been invaluable and she has received the Rebecca Sieff Award and currently is on the WIZO Australia Federal Executive.
In Betty’s own words…”being part of WIZO has been a wonderful privilege, and has enriched my life tremendously”.
