Denny Govendir z'l

Denise Govendir z’l was born in 1944. Denny (as she was affectionately known) began working for WIZO in the 1970’s as an office administrator.

WIZO NSW was growing and her efficiency, organisational skills, friendly personality and passion for Israel quickly made her invaluable to the running of the organization. She joined WIZO Ayelet and was always willing to organize and support all their events.

Denny was promoted to Executive Director in 1990 and as such worked hand in hand with Presidents Leila Share (z”l), Rony Bognar OAM and Esther Wakerman before she passed away in unexpected and tragic circumstances in March 1998.

During her 20 years at WIZO Denny was employed in both the State and Federal offices and lived and breathed WIZO every day. She was instrumental in encouraging younger women to become involved. She attended all WIZO World Conferences and was a great motivator and advocate for the wonderful work of WIZO.

Denny passed away in 1998 at the early age of 53. In honour of her service and the respect that Denny was held in, the hall at the Korsunzski Youth Centre in Kfar Saba is in her name.

To this day Denny is still greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
