Merrilyn Ades
Merrilyn joined WIZO in Adelaide in 1968, as one of the first members of the “young group”, WIZO Ilana.
Merrilyn’s commitment to WIZO was enhanced when she was the only member from South Australia to attend the first Aviv Conference in Israel in 1979. Merrilyn also went to the WIZO Aviv tour in 1989 which visited Paris, Poland and finally Israel.
Merrilyn was Treasurer of WIZO State Council of South Australia from 1976 to 2004, only 28 years! She has also been Honorary Secretary from 2009 to today.
Merrilyn received the Rebecca Sieff Award for her devotion to WIZO SA.
Merrilyn has been a stalwart of the Adelaide Jewish Community, also serving as President of Beit Shalom Synagogue from 1995 to 1998, Secretary of the Jewish Community Council of SA for many years, and is currently secretary of the State Zionist Council, a position she has held for the past 10 years.
She is an Honorary Life Member of WIZO Australia and also the Jewish Community representative and Treasurer on the Council of Christians and Jews for the past 15 years.
To add to her community involvement, Merrilyn is also the editor of the Adelaide Hebrew Congregation newsletter and its minute Secretary.
Ask a busy person to do a task, Merrilyn never says no.
On the occasion of her 70th birthday, WIZO SA marked the occasion with a paver in her honour on the Road of Hope.
