WIZO Queensland Concert for Peace Report

This past Sunday 3rd November 2024, WIZO Qld held their inaugural Concert at the Jewish Community Centre, Burbank. With the theme of “Peace” as our focus, all monies raised went toward our current project of Shelters for children in schools and kindergartens in Israel.
The event was a huge success with over 100 in attendance. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the varied selection of music both sung and instrumental, then afterwards were treated to a sumptuous High Tea.

Performers:

Three of our young women, Gill, Yael and Elinor were born in Israel, one of whom was from Kibbutz Be’eri who dedicated her song to her heroes – her cousin who lost his life in the attack on Oct 7th and to his wife who survived. Another young woman Laure, the granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor was born in France sang in Hebrew, English and French.

Our men, Daniel, Renato from Brazil and Nir from Israel performed and sang in Hebrew and English and played guitar.

Joining us were some Christian singers and musicians, all of whom support Israel and the Jewish people. Richard Oddie, a master guitarist performed an amazing piece and accompanied the singers, Elliot Plumpton played violin, Jeremy Roberts organised sound and his very accomplished wife, Jenn was pianist, one of our lead singers and also gave musical direction.

Christine Bell, our new WIZO events committee member sang and organised many different facets of the event together with Sylvia Lipski (Qld President) and Evelyn Charles (Vice President and Events committee). All involved and all who attended agreed that we need to do this again, it was so worth it.
