Hedy Schwartz z'l
Hedy was born in Hungary in 1932.
Following the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, she travelled to Israel where she spent 3 of the 8 years she spent there in the Israeli Army Nursing School.
She subsequently married and arrived in Australia at the age of 25. She was the proud mother of 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Hedy was a member of WIZO for 46 years and WIZO Arad’s President for over 30 years. She joined the WIZO State Executive in 1983 and held various portfolios, including Fundraising, Birthday Club and Membership.
To ensure her continued involvement with WIZO she was elected a Counsellor to State Executive in 2001.
In 1994 Hedy was presented with the Rebecca Sieff Award, the highest accolade a WIZO woman can be awarded.
Hedy enjoyed participating in aerobic exercises, music, reading, cooking, and baking. For many years she, together with her husband, operated a large catering company.
Hedy was always one to give to the community and was a blood donor for many years.
When she moved into Arcare in the latter years of her life she organized WIZO functions there and taught many of the residents about WIZO.
In her own words “My life is much more beautiful and meaningful with WIZO being part of it. The love and appreciation I receive is worth all the effort”.
